  • 1) The ASSA currently has no liability insurance.  In and increasingly litigious society it was determined that the association and its board members should be protected.  An adequate policy can be obtained from SIAI for $550 per year.
  • Motion was made by Bryant Everett, 2nd by Bob Jenkins to add to the standing rules; The ASSA will purchase and maintain liability insurance.  Motion passed all in favor.
  • 2) In an effort to offset the cost of liability insurance and to keep the association on firm financial ground, it was proposed to increase the annual dues for club membership from $25 to $50.
  • Motion was made by Bill Parson, 2nd by Bryant Everett to change standing rule # 5 to; Annual dues for all clubs in ASSA shall be $50.00 per year payable on or before the November meeting.  Motion passed all in favor.
  • 3) A report detailing the cost of the State Shoot for Fort Rucker Skeet Club was reviewed.  At the 2009 state shoot there were 3,300 targets un-accounted for.  About one third of those targets can be explained by the shooter’s right to observe targets or ‘show targets’.  It was the intent of the ASSA to reimburse the hosting club for all targets required to conduct the state shoot minus broken targets or targets used for maintenance/field adjustment.  The current by-laws state:
  • The club hosting the State Shoot will be reimbursed for targets, to include shoot off targets, at cost per target plus 5 cents.  Cost verifiable by invoice not to exceed reasonable market rates.
  • It was proposed to change the by-laws to state:
  • The club hosting the State Shoot will be reimbursed for targets at cost per target plus 5 cents.  The hosting club will be reimbursed for all registered targets and shoot off targets plus 4% for show targets.  Cost verifiable by invoice not to exceed reasonable market rates.
  • Motion was made by Bill Perry, 2nd by Bryant Everett to change the by-laws as proposed.  Motion passed all in favor.
  • 4) There are currently 3 clubs in Alabama large enough to host the state shoot; Southern, Red Eagle, and Fort Rucker.  In November 2008 the association implemented by-law changes to limit the financial liability of the association and its members to the club hosting the state shoot.  In particular, reimbursement for targets and food was decided and set.  This resulted in Southern and Red Eagle not wanting to host the state shoot in 2010.  It was not the intent of the association to limit the location of the state shoot to just one club.  Southern and Red Eagle were asked what conditions needed to be met in order for them to host the state shoot.  Webster Roberts stated that Southern’s board of directors needed $20 per 100 for target reimbursement.  This statement was interpreted by the assembled board as Southern not wanting to host the state shoot.  Phillip Daniels stated that Red Eagle was not concerned with the target reimbursement but they were concerned with the reimbursement for the food.  The current by-laws state:
  • The club hosting the State Shoot will be responsible for all of the food at the State Shoot.  This will include Friday night cocktail party, Saturday night Banquet, and Saturday / Sunday Lunch.  The hosting club will be reimbursed $4.00 per gun entry by the ASSA.  Shooters will not incur any additional charges for food provided at the State Shoot.  Fees for non-shooters will be at the discretion of the hosting club.
  • In particular, Red Eagle was concerned with the requirement to provide both Saturday and Sunday lunches along with the other requirements.  It was also discussed that the Friday night cocktail party should actually be Friday night hor’dourves.  It was proposed to change the by-laws to state:
  • The club hosting the State Shoot will be responsible for all of the food at the State Shoot.  The hosting club will be reimbursed $4.00 per gun entry by the ASSA for Friday night hor’dourves and a Saturday night banquet.  All shooters, plus one guest, will not incur any additional costs for Friday and Saturday night.  Fees for non-shooters, additional guests, and any other food provided will be at the discretion of the hosting club.
  • Motion was made by Phillip Daniels, 2nd by Bryant Everett to change the by-laws as proposed.  Motion passed all in favor.
  • There being no further business to discuss.  Motion was made by Bob Jenkins, 2nd by Harrell Howell to adjourn.  Motion passed all in favor.  The Board of Directors meeting was in session from 1:02pm – 3:35pm.
  • Respectfully Submitted,
  • Brad Felton, President

  •   Harrell Howell was nominated for Vice-President.  There being no further nominations.
  • Motion was made by Bill Perry, 2nd by Bryant Everett to elect Harrell Howell as Vice-President.  Motion passed.
  • 7. New Business.
  • There was a discussion about the current economic condition’s effect on the financial stability of the association.  The recent by-law changes on setting the reimbursement to the hosting club for targets and food was discussed.  The general consensus was that we were at the shoot to shoot and not to eat.  The discussion then focused on ways to make the shoot better while still keeping costs at a reasonable level.  The 2009 state shoot entry fees were raised from $35 to $36 due to increasing costs and reduced participation.  It was stated that entry fees would have to be increased to maintain or improve the shoot and keep the association on firm financial footing.
  • Motion was made by Harrell Howell, 2nd by Bob Jenkins to set the entry fees for the 2010 state shoot at a minimum of $40.  Motion passed.
  • There being no further business to discuss.  Motion was made by Bryant Everett, 2nd by Jim Cazer to adjourn.  Motion passed.  The Annual meeting was in session from 6:55pm – 7:37pm.
  • Respectfully Submitted,
  • Brad Felton, President
